Dr. Pete Cooper
Dr. Pete Cooper has been working in the mental health profession for 27 years and is board certified and licensed to practice and supervise in the state of Louisiana. He started his first field residencies in Brooklyn, NY in 1999 while achieving his Associate of Arts degree in Mental Health and Human Services from Kingsborough College in Brooklyn, NY in 1999. After much travel throughout North and Central America, he achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Ashford University in Clinton, IA in 2008. While furthering his natural and practical experience and training from continued travel, he obtained his Master’s and Doctoral degree in Counseling from Capella University in 2010 and 2018 respectively.
Dr. Cooper has had very interesting experiences while residing on Hopi and Navajo reservations in Arizona and New Mexico as well as experiences with Polynesian and Eskimo tribes in Hawaii and Alaska respectively. He was also a working traveling musician for many years. He has recorded several albums under his own moniker. Dr. Cooper also provides art and music therapy to those who are drawn to these resources.
Additionally, after many years as a generalist, Dr. Cooper has been able to tailor his approach and specifications to utilizing treatment modalities that are centuries old Eastern & Western philosophies and practices including, but not limited to, Taoism, Zen and Stoicism. He currently specializes in the treatment of stress management, major life transitions, health and fitness transformations, meditation practice and intimacy issues for couples. He also employs modern approaches such as humanism, existentialism, psychoanalysis & DBT (repackaged mindfulness). He also provides licensure supervision for those seeking state licensure.
In addition to Dr. Cooper’s other academic credentials, he is a Certified Life Coach certified through Life Purpose Institute.
